Here at WallflowerFood, we’re passionate about showing people the other side of dance and electronic music. We think the best way to go about doing this is by helping our readers to get a better idea of the people behind the music. That’s why our blog is written entirely by the artists… because no one can tell their story better than they can. English is not a first language for some of the artists we feature here so please appreciate it for what it is!

Like, tweet, share, and enjoy! We’re trying to something different and cool here, so help us spread the word!

P.e.o. - Be My Woman Girl [I'll Be Your Man]

I’m a french deep house producer living in Brussel, Belgium. I started making this type of music in september 2012. At first, I used to play the drums, then the bass and the guitar and finally turned myself to electronic music when i moved to Montreal. I love electronic music because it is to me best way to turn your ideas and feelings into melodies. I also think this type of music allows us to create the music that we want and stay out of business that has, to me, ruined music over the years.

P.e.o, in french it would pronounced “péo” (google translate will help you with that), is the way my friends used to call me when i was a child. I usually try to create nice and smooth melodies with songs like ‘When It Rains’ or ‘Magnolia‘ but this one is way more funky. The original song is a “Negro Prison” song called “Rosie” and you can easily find it on you tube. (the name of the album “Negro Prison Blues & Songs”). I do not own the rights on the original version of the song i just loved it and couldn’t resist to remix it.

This song will be on my first EP “To a dear friend that I’ve lost”. OUT SOON on Citizogic wich is an independent collective based in Montreal, Canada. I really hope you will enjoy it ! Thanks for listening !

PS : Hope my english isn’t too bad .

Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (CellarDoor Bootleg) (Free Download)

My name is Aaron and I’m a 20 year old producer from Amsterdam that goes by the name CellarDoor. I came up with the name after watching the movie Donnie Darko, where Drew Barrymore plays an English teacher and says that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that “cellar door” is the most beautiful. Besides that I like it because party’s are mostly held in dark spaces similar to a cellar.

I’ve always liked funk / soul / disco music. My original idea was actually to remix Simply Red – Sunrise, but then I figured: why not go with the original sample. I wanted to do the original track justice and don’t change too much about it. This is what I came up with.

There is a lot more music coming up in a little while. In the meantime, I hope everyone can enjoy this free download.

Emmelie de Forest - Only teardrops (Copycat Disco Remix) (Free Download)

I’m not really a big fan of Eurovision music. But I’m a huge fan of Eurovision itself; the very spectacle.

This year the final was held in my neck of the woods, in Malmö, Sweden. And I even went to see the jury final. The show was – as usual – spectacular. Possibly even more so now – the Swedes sure know how to throw a good Eurovision party. However, this year there were not that many songs that stood out from the crowd – bar the crazy ass Romanian, a gay-vampire-disco-falsetto-drama that was simply brilliant, if you ask me. And that electro-banger from Norway. But that’s an entirely different story…

And to be totally honest, I wasn’t exactly overwhelmed with joy by the winner either, the etno-cum-Shakira-light “Only teardrops” by the lovely Emmelie de Forest. During the Eurovision night, a Danish DJ friend of mine hollered and said he happened to have the acapella of the Danish contribution. And we sort of half-challenged each other about doing something with it if it were to win, immediately that night. Naturally, the Danes won. And seeing as I had the pella, I felt obliged to do something with it – or to it, rather…

So I skipped my beauty sleep that night, and started working on the remix as soon as the show was over. 6 hours later, I was finished and posted it. I managed to get at least a couple of hours sleeep – and woke up to see that I’ve’d made the right decision… The remix seemed to be an instant hit… Although I’ve been in the business for some time now, it rapidly – in 5 days – has become one of my most popular remixes to date. In fact, it’s already in the top 10 of my most played tunes on Soundcloud, even passing my two most recent remixes – both very popular – namely my nu-disco remix of “Suit & Tie” by Justin Timberlake and my italo remix of Alicia Keys “Brand New Me”

So, without further ado – I give you:

Usher - Nice And Slow (WMNSTUDIES Remix) (Free Download)

Hey people! We are WMNSTUDIES. If your wondering what the name’s all about, don’t worry, so are we. It came about on a foggy summer night on a patio somewhere over numerous beers. We liked the ring of it. Plus, what pubescent young lad doesn’t grow up studying women and the art of trying to get them. WMNSTUDIES consists of myself (Zach) , and Boot’s – short for SaveMeBoots – Again if your confused about the name, don’t worry. From what I recall the name stems from an incident where Boot’s almost burned down his house (most likely under the influence of who knows what) and was seen running around the burning house naked in a pair of cowboy boots. I could be wrong, but let’s run with it! We are bff’s <3

We are both from Vancouver but I currently reside in Toronto. We make all of our tunes via sending files back and fourth over the web, which is challenging considering we both listen to a HUGE spectrum of music. We knew we had to settle down a somewhat straight and narrow path musically. At the time, we were we jamming really hard to Bondax and Perseus, but also listening to allot of disco. We both love Hip-Hop/R&B as well as “Indie” music or whatever you wanna call it, so no matter what we did we knew it would be a mish-mash of everything we like about everything. We released Too Damn Dope For Me which was our first love child, and have been building on that with every release. So this is our latest Bootleg, hope you enjoy the listen!

We’ve been a huge fan of The Other Tribe for a minute so it was a great honor to officially remix their new single “We Should Be Dancing“. We’ve been focused on working with artists that we love and this was a no-brainer.

Since the song was tribal in nature, we wanted to take a different approach providing a more mechanical and classic approach. We added some fun synths, retro drums and it came out amazing. A touch of Depeche Mode and New Order with a lot of our signature sounds.

We’ve got a ton of new music on the way and this is the first of many new tracks and projects on the way with both major and interdependent artists. In addition we’ve got new solo material on the way as well!

My mom and dad have always been my biggest sources of inspiration on what to sample. They’re the ones who’ve showed me all the classics I take inspiration from, and that have built my taste in music. My dad’s always been telling me about George Duke, and how he is behind everything artists I admire make, and that’s he’s the true pioneer of Electro Funk.

It’s quite a coincidence I chose to sample a George Duke song for Wake Up, because I fell on it completely by accident! But I was really happy with the outcome of the track. I’ve been working on a free 12 tracks EP called Miami Nights for the past 4 months, and with it I’ve been trying to capture the feel of Miami in the 80′s, even thought I’ve never actually been to Miami, or lived in the 80′s..

Wake Up is the first single of this CD, and I think it really showcases what the whole CD is about. The CD drops on June 10th, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it! You can attend this event to know everything about it, and to be the first to know when it’s released!

The hype surrounding Daft Punk’s latest album has pretty much covered all my social feeds. Anyone with a copy of Ableton or FLstudio has been making remixes of ‘Get Lucky’. So yes I pretty much joined the bandwagon! It was kind of hard not to. I really wanted the album to have that one track that would rip the dance floor apart. Not that I don’t like the album but I just don’t see the banger that there could have been. Maybe I’m wrong. Obviously Get Lucky with be the anthem of 2013.

Anyway, I often make edits for mixtapes or for gigs etc. Every DJ should do, to make their sets more interesting & appealing. So ‘Beyond’ my favourite track from the album, quite a slow track. I wanted to speed things up but keep the funk so I put my spin on it.

So far, It’s seen a little love and a little hate. Some guy saying”The album has only been out a week, how can you make a remix in a week, it’s impossible”. Little did he know I made it in around 6 hours. Haha! I didn’t make it to be sonically perfect. I and a lot of people can’t afford the equipment to do that and quite a few DJ’s I follow make edits and play them out the same night. Personally I use Ableton Live 8. If you know anything about that software then you will know it has a midi slice tool. You can pretty much rip a track apart in seconds and rearrange samples. Its brilliant.

Next up for me is to complete a remix for Dobara Music, which is the label I’m on and maybe put in a few hours and make a few edits for my next gig which is the Dobara Live Showcase in London this Friday 24.05.13. Be sure to come down if your in town! Event Info here!
